The story happens in the late Ming Dynasty, when the world of Weiqi is faced with conflicts between the righteous spirit of Weiqi and the evil forces. The leading figure, Jiang Liu’er, is orphaned as his father dies when investigating collaborators of the enemy for the imperial court. When he wins against three young monks at the same time in the game of Weiqi in Lingyun temple, the old monk in the temple notices that Jiang Liu’er is a rare Weiqi genius and encourages him to explore the outside world and learn the Weiqi skills of various schools. From then on, Jiang Liu’er embarks on the journey to participate in the national Weiqi competition.
